Who We Are
In August 2025 a group of Democratic grassroots donors and activists came together to raise awareness about the problem of self-dealing Political Action Committees(PACs). We started calling ourselves ScamBusters and the name stuck. Our Scambuster team—all of us volunteers- brings years of experience in fundraising, voter outreach and campaigning, data analysis, campaign finance compliance, investigative reporting, and digital political strategy.
We exist because millions of dollars donated by well meaning Democratic supporters never reach a candidate, a voter outreach program, or a single piece of campaign advertising distributed to the public. Instead, money donated by well-intentioned donors is captured by deceptive political action committees — scam PACs — that exploit donors’ earnest and positive desire to contribute to electing Democrats in order to enrich consultants and operators.
What We Do
Scambusters take action in three areas:
- Research: We analyze PACs using publicly available FEC data to review how they raise money, how they spend it, and what percentage — if any — reaches candidates or electoral programs. We examine vendor relationships, self-dealing arrangements, deceptive advertising, and organizational transparency.
- Partnership: We share our findings with ActBlue, Democratic party leadership, other grassroots organizations and donors to help identify and deter bad actors.
- Education: We help Democratic donors, campaign volunteers, and voters to recognize the warning signs of scam PACs so they can make informed decisions about where their money goes.
Since our formation, we have analyzed PACs, identified scam and spam PACs, reported to ActBlue PACs on who violates rules for using the ActBlue platform, published articles on Scam PACs, hosted educational events, and offered direct support to donors who have been exploited by scam PACs.
